The Dog Days of summer have arrived for me! One bass in three days. The hit and miss rain storms are mostly missing the areas I fish and the resulting warmer water has kicked off algae blooms.
Dead calm, full sun, warm water and low oxygen levels, not a good time to bass fish.

Had to try four different ponds to catch one small bass. That was the only bite I had all morning. Glad I didn't bother putting the boat in, not worth it when the fish aren't biting in this heat.
Mostly sunny with a slight breeze.

Tried topwater and a swimbait in early pre dawn darkness with no strikes. I thought at least a gar would slap at it but got nothing. In case anyone is wondering I have a few places that are lit up by streetlight's at night. There is enough glare that I can see to cast and watch my top water stuff coming back. And the occasional curious alligator staring back...
Went to my trusted soft plastics and caught two small bass. Clear and hot, mostly calm with not a lot of fish activity.

Managed one bass about 18 inches before the bites started and by bites I mean Fire Ants! Between catching the bass and walking 20 yards to the Jeep for a picture I stepped into a ant bed without realizing it. Definitely a rookie mistake!
That one bass was the only fish I caught. Clear skies and calm.

Three small bass this morning and missed a few bites that were probably gar. There are a lot of small fry that I assume are tilapia along the bank feeding on the plankton and the rest of the food chain follows along.
Clear with a light breeze

Managed to catch another 19 inch bass at first light! Maybe the rain showers has cooled off the water a little and that sets them off. Its nice to catch fish like this from the bank for a change. I have been using 10lb mono instead of my ultralight, its best to beach the fish and wait a moment to see if something followed it in. A jumping bass is like a dinner bell for a gator.

Title says it all, caught a nice 19 inch bass while a rocket was going up from the space coast! It was the only fish I caught but another angler caught a 4.5 pounder while I was there. Catching fish like this in July surprises me, normally its October before the larger fish get active for me. Full sun and no wind with a soft plastic for the fish.

The fishing has been slow for me the last couple of months. Nothing over 16-17 inches in the last two months till today. Caught a nice 20 inch bass that was pushing 5 pounds on my scale. It is my pb bass from that particular pond.
Full sun and light wind, caught early on a dinger fished with a 4/0 hook and no weights.

Welcome
Looks like you have realized the lack of places around here to fish, especially from the bank. Be very careful where you fish in PG, the police are cracking down and tickets start at $100 and no warning tickets. Lake Webb has a few places that can be fished from the bank till the water gets high. The Cocoplum waterway stretches for 10 miles across North Port and has several access points. Kings Hwy between US 41 and I75 has some water that holds fish. Most places are shallow, 10 foot is deep unless its an old marl pit. We do have a few invasive species but the peacock bass are still about 25 miles South in Lee County. Watch out for gators and fire ants, mosquitos are optional.
The last week has been tough fishing, few fish.

We caught 11 bass total this morning. K caught 6 to my 5 and she also had the biggest. Lost nothing big and caught nothing big. The tilapia were all on top feeding but they wont even hit a night crawler!
Started out calm going to a light breeze with full sun.

You ever have "one of those days"? K and I had one where nothing went right. The sad part is almost all of it was human error. Everything from fishing line in the trolling motor to falling on the wet bank. It seemed like we were getting hung on rocks every other cast while fighting the wind.
We only caught 4 bass total with a double up included! We spent several hours trying for tilapia to no avail. We even tried night crawlers and caught nothing. Four small bass on soft plastics was the best we could do.
I want to give a shout out to the gentleman we talked to with the sweet boat with Garmin PanOptics! If you happen to read this send an email.
